Preparing for University
Preparing for University – A year long process
  • Students receive a detailed manual on how to prepare for university in September
  • Gray Academy has a web site on the process of applying
  • Meetings are held to help students understand the process and timelines
  • University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg are invited to talk to the graduating class and answer questions one on one
  • Students make multiple one on one appointments with the counselor to guide their process
  • Students write a grad plan to help them focus and plan for individual choices
  • Meetings are held on how to apply for scholarships
  • Students attend a large university fair with representatives from universities across Canada
  • Students attend university days at University of Manitoba or University of Winnipeg
  • Parents attend a university evening at school and hear a presentation from University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg
  • Students are given the resources to contact the universities to ask questions
  • Students are offered opportunities to study in Israel as well as universities across Canada and colleges in the United States
  • Students and parents may meet individually with representatives from each university and go on a tour
  • Each university has an "Evening of Excellence" to speak to high achieving students about their plans for the future. It is also an excellent chance to meet new mentors.
  • A Career Day may be held and students have the opportunity to be mentored by Alumni
  • Students and parents are emailed about upcoming university deadlines, opportunities to attend conferences, and scholarship criteria and deadlines
