Gray Academy began a new era when we formally launched our new International Student Program in 2007.

Gray Academy of Jewish Education is North America’s only Jewish International Education program with a Jewish homestay experience. Located in the heart of Canada’s Prairie region, Gray Academy has become the largest independent Jewish Day School in Western Canada. Our school offers International students high quality English study opportunities as well as innovative and challenging academic courses in the areas of Language, Science, Technology, Math, Humanities, Performing Arts, Athletics and Judaic Studies. We provide an amazing opportunity to nurture life-long friends in a safe and friendly environment. International students become family members and will find a “second-home” in our school and community.

We presently have students from Brazil and Chile in addition to over 100 students who are new immigrant arrivals to Winnipeg.

Gray Academy offers many support services to international students to assist with their transition to life in Canada including Guidance and English as an Additional Language (EAL).

EAL - Rosetta Stone Language Library:

  • For students in Grades 7 -12 who require additional support in the development of the English language, we offer the benefits of a revolutionary program that makes learning a new language faster and easier than ever before.
  • This library is a combination of sights, sounds and words which represent a breakthrough in language learning.
  • It can be viewed as a multi-media individual language lab where the aid of computers, headsets and handbooks allow students to navigate through the material at their own pace, using their respective natural learning styles.
Guidance Department:
  • Students in Grades 7-12, have an opportunity to be exposed to a myriad of resources available to them in the guidance department.
  • Whether browsing through literature on a range of social issues or seeking information on University scholarships, we offer a one-stop resource.
  • The guidance area is a relaxed, informative and welcoming environment for all senior students.

Opportunities exist for international students to become involved with leadership roles within a myriad of Jewish organizations such as B'nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO), synagogue sponsored programs, and various Jewish agencies including the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg also offers many professional and community-level cultural and athletic opportunities ranging from hockey, baseball and football to music, ballet and dance.

If you are interested in being a homestay family for an international student, please take a look at our Host Family Homestay Application.
