Elementary Guidance Teacher: Marcelo Mohadeb
Hours are Monday to Friday from 8:50 a.m. until 11:50 a.m.


Elementary Guidance Program
The primary goal of our school guidance program is to enhance and promote student learning. Our services are designed to provide support and resources to all students, families and teachers.

Core Service Areas

Counselling
  • May include individual, group and class
  • Responding to emotional, social, intellectual, academic, physical, safety and health needs in a developmentally appropriate manner
  • Helping students through their families and community grow in self esteem, individual responsibility skills, decision making skills and social relationships
  • Helping students to develop an awareness of personal uniqueness
Prevention
  • Emphasis is on enhancing positive, safe climate
  • Intervention to shorten the duration or lessen the impact of a problem
  • Teaching and building effective communication skills, conflict resolution, data collection, collaboration, mediation, making informed decisions
  • Transitional planning
  • Bullying awareness program
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of school community
Guidance Education
  • Provide direct instruction to students in a variety of areas (classroom instruction)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and Child Guidance Professionals to implement IEPs (individual education plan) and BIPs (behavior intervention plan)
  • Distributing information to students, parents, the educational community

High School Guidance Counsellor: Diane Peters
Hours are Days 1, 2, 3, from 9:35 am - 3:30 pm and
Day 4 and 5 from 12:45 pm - 3:30 pm


High School Guidance Program
The primary goal of the guidance program is to help students attain their full academic potential, develop responsible independence and form a sense of self-worth through a supportive counselling relationship and collaborative partnership with parents, teachers and administrators as they strive to identify and clarify personal values and goals.

Ms. Peters encourages students to email her any day of the cycle at dpeters@grayacademy.ca; lunch appointments are available.

Individual Planning System
  • Assists senior students in planning and managing personal/social issues
  • Assists senior students in educational development
  • Assists senior students in planning and managing their career development
  • Assists graduating students in applying to universities, and applying for scholarships, bursaries or student loans
Responsive Services
  • Addresses the immediate, ongoing concerns of students
  • Addresses the immediate, ongoing concerns of students that interfere with their career development
System Support
  • Program, staff and school support activities and services
  • Activities necessary to support the other three components
  • Management activities that establish, maintain and enhance the guidance program
