Think of a podcast as a radio broadcast for the internet; you can play a podcast directly from a website, or download it to your MP3 player. They are created using a recording program on the computer and a microphone. Some podcasts are also videos; to create a video podcast you need a recording program that will record video as well as voice. At Gray Academy of Jewish Education, we create podcasts using the program Garageband on the iMac Computers. Students are able to record their voices, add music tracks and sound effects; voices can also be changed using different modulations and speeds. For this project, the students chose a topic they were interested in, and then created their podcasts to reflect the topic. The topics ranged from hockey games, to soccer commentary to an explanation of Hip Hop dance. The projects had to include music, voice, and a sound effect that enhanced the broadcast.
