Judaic Studies - grade 1


As students advance through the early years, they continue being exposed to the various Judaics themes through integration into their daily rituals and routines.

Look at the expanding list below to learn more about how our Judaic Studies themes are explored in Grade 1.

Israel

Students continue to be exposed to traditions and customs of the holidays through hands-on activities as well as song and dance. Exploration of each holiday takes place through age appropriate discussion and activities. Blessings of each holiday are introduced.

Hebrew Language

The Tal AM program creates a foundation of Hebrew language skills to include speaking, comprehension, reading and writing. Students use their letter recognition to combine letters with vowels in order to develop phonetic and whole language reading skills.

Torah

Students are introduced to Tal AM's weekly Torah section (Parshat Hashavua) and follow all of the stories from Sefer B’reishit.

Prayer & Spirituality

Students expand their repertoire of Shacharit and Shabbat prayers and begin to explore their personal connection to prayer through selected T’fillot. Students learn through discussion and personal reflection. Students begin to navigate the siddur. An emphasis on prayer with intention and from the heart

Students expand their repertoire of Shacharit (morning) and Shabbat prayers and begin to explore their personal connection to prayer through selected T’fillot. Students learn through discussion and personal reflection. Students begin to navigate the siddur. An emphasis on prayer with intention and from the heart (Kavanah) is the focus for the year, culminating in Chaggigat Ha-Siddur.

Holidays

Students learn the holidays by following the Jewish calendar and by following the various symbols and mitzvot of each holiday.
