judaic studies - Grade 4


Students enjoy tactical and formalized learning, and gain additional exposure to the various Judaics themes through integration into their daily rituals and routines. They are able to delve deeper into more meaningful conversations and ideas.

Look at the expanding list below to learn more about how our Judaic Studies themes are explored in Grade 4.

Israel

The students are introduced to an in-depth study of Israel’s National Anthem, Hatikvah. Students begin to navigate the Israeli map and are introduced to Israel’s geographic neighbours. Students further their knowledge of important places and symbols in Israel and learn more about various cities and their characteristics.

Hebrew Language

Students continue to learn with equal emphasis on all four language competencies.  A focus of this year is teaching students language structures and how to build a sentence.

Torah

Students study the lives of Ya’akov and Yosef in the remaining Parshiot in the book of B’reishit. A highlight of their Torah study is a dramatic presentation focusing on the Coat of Many Colours and the Sale of Yosef. Students conclude the book of B’reishit with a Siyyum – a special celebration for the completion of the first book of the Torah.

Prayer & Spirituality

T’fillah is scheduled three times a cycle for Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday, Havdallah on Monday and a weekly visit from a community cantor. Students learn new Shacharit prayers and a variety of tunes for different T’fillot from the community cantor.

Holidays

Students continue to learn and expand their knowledge of the historical background of the holidays. They access prior knowledge to continue to build their learning.
