Applying From Outside Canada

When you immigrate to Canada, you will have many important decisions to make. Your child’s education will be one of them. Will you enroll in a public or an independent school? A Gray Academy education is a long-term investment in your child.  

STEP 1

On An Exploratory Visit

Every Thursday from 9:00am-11:00am, visitors are encouraged to participate in a tour of the school.  Tours will give you an opportunity to learn more about our school’s values and mission, meet our teachers, students and our leadership team. You will also have an opportunity to understand the Parental Contribution model which determines school fees. Our Director of Admissions can arrange for a personalized visit that meets your needs.

STEP 2

Submit Application Form, Deposit and Student Fee

Please click here to begin the application process for the 2019-2020 school year. The application must be accompanied by a copy of official identification (birth certificate or passport) and immigration papers (if applicable). If the student is a landed immigrant or has a parent in Canada on a work visa, copies of identification and immigration papers are required before the student’s application will be reviewed. 

Submit forms with a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $400 per student, as well as the student fee of $120.

This deposit will guarantee that a place in the grade you are requesting will be available whenever you arrive during the course of the school year. This deposit will be applied to the total amount you will owe in payments to the school; it is not an extra charge. Because the school is reserving a place for your child, the deposit is non-refundable.

You will also be asked to pay an additional $120 CDN per child for the annual student fee, which covers all of the expenses of activities that take place outside the classroom throughout the year (buses for special class trips, snacks/lunches for Jewish celebrations and holidays, etc.)

 The deposit and student fee can be paid by credit card online at www.grayacademy.plastiq.com . (Additional fees may apply). We do not accept international bank drafts or money orders. 

STEP 3

Understanding the New To Canada Financial Enrollment Model (Kindergarten-Grade 12)

“Parental Contribution” refers to the amount that each family is asked to pay annually for education at Gray Academy.  The full parental contribution is:
1st child: $10,800 CDN  
2nd child: $10,800 CDN
3rd and additional child(ren): $7,000 CDN

Parental contributions can be paid in full before the first day of school or in ten monthly installments.  Monthly installments can be paid by pre-authorized withdrawal from a Canadian bank account or by credit card. (If paying by credit card, additional fees may apply.)

When you arrive in Canada, please contact our Director of Admissions to set up an appointment to confirm payment arrangements. 

Assessed Parental Contribution

We understand that your first year in Canada may present financial challenges.  Our community is committed to making education at our school accessible to the greatest number of students. For the 2019-2020 school year, the cost to families who meet the criteria below is:

1st child: $4,100 CDN
2nd child: $2,200 CDN
3rd and additional child(ren): $1,000 each 

To qualify to receive this bursary assistance you must meet these criteria: 

-Family income in 2018 below $100,000 (Canadian equivalent)
-Expected family income in Canada for September 2019-August 2020 below $100,000 (Canadian equivalent)
-Assets below $100,000 (Canadian equivalent)
- New to Canada since January 1, 2019

    When you begin to work in Canada and file your annual Canadian income tax return, your Gray Academy assessed parental contribution will be determined by the gross household income that you will officially declare to the Canadian government. Click here to give you an idea of the amount of assistance you may be eligible to receive and will also allow you to budget for education in your child’s consecutive years at Gray Academy. Please note that this grid is simply a guide and reflects assessed parental contributions for the 2019-20 school year. Second and third children in the family are eligible for discounts at all income levels on the grid.

    Junior Kindergarten

    Step 5

    Schedule a meeting with the Director of Admissions when you arrive in Winnipeg

    Once you have arrived in Winnipeg and are ready to have your child begin school, please contact our Director of Admissions, to set up a meeting.  At this meeting, you will be asked to provide additional information to complete the application including: 

    • Your child’s Manitoba Health Card number
    • The names and phone numbers of two people in Winnipeg who the school can contact in case of emergency
    • Current Canadian address and telephone number
    • Current employer (if applicable)
    • Any other information that you were unable to provide prior to your arrival in Canada
    •  If you are planning to pay the parental contribution using pre-authorized debit from your bank account, you will also asked to provide a void cheque from your Canadian banking institution


     *School Uniforms

    The cost of school uniforms is NOT included in the parental contribution.  Plan to budget approximately $350 CDN per child for uniforms for the school year. Uniform pieces and prices can be viewed at www.topmarks.ca by entering the school code GRA01. If you wish to purchase uniform pieces online before your arrival in Canada, the school can accept delivery of your items. The shipping address is:

    Our school co-ordinates sales of used student uniforms at a discounted price. More information about the purchase of used uniforms will be available at your meeting with our Director of Admissions.
