judaic studies - KINDERGARTEN

As students build their comfort level in a classroom setting, the arts continue to influence teaching, while daily rituals and routines introduce students to Judaic themes. The classroom environment emphasizes learning through fun and creativity.

Look at the expanding list below to learn more about how our Judaic Studies themes are explored in Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten.


Students continue to learn about Israel through song, dance, games and activities. An introduction to Israel’s geography, people and culture is taught through the song “Eretz Israel Sheli”, enabling students to begin to connect to the Jewish homeland.

Hebrew Language

Students begin to use Hebrew vocabulary in spoken sentences. The students are introduced and exposed to the letters and sounds (aleph-bet). This prepares students for reading and recognition of their Hebrew name.

Students begin to celebrate Torah as an important symbol of the Jewish people. They begin to connect to the Torah through stories and discussion. Understanding the 7th day of Creation (Shabbat) is an important part of the Kindergarten culminating celebration.

Prayer & Spirituality

Students continue to build on their repertoire of T’fillot from JK. This includes mastering additional prayers for Shacharit and the holidays. Birkat Hamazon is part of the students’ daily lunch routine.

Jewish Living

Students continue to be exposed to traditions and customs of the holidays through hands-on activities as well as song and dance. Exploration of each holiday takes place through age appropriate discussion and activities. Blessings of each holiday are introduced.
